The BioCarbon Fund was a World Bank-managed trust fund that is now closed. This website remains available for reference, but no further updates will be made.
Participants investing in the BioCarbon Fund included six governments and public entities, along with 11 private companies. Private sector participants came from industries such as oil & gas, utilities, food & beverage, iron & steel, chemicals & pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. The emission reductions that the BioCarbon Fund purchased on behalf of its Participants were subsequently transferred to them pro-rata based on their financial participation in the fund.
Participants in the fund were involved in decisions regarding the inclusion of projects in the portfolio, as well as in the review of proposed annual activity reports, annual budgets, and business plans.
